Even though FSCJ transitioned to digital in 2013 with the BlueWave newsletter, which is distributed monthly to all employees via email, the College has a long history of going to print to get its point across.
It is unclear which newsletter came first – both the Information Services Newsletter (later FJC Scape) and Student Activities Newsletter are numbered in a way that suggests they may have started as early as 1968 or 1969 – but after that the floodgates opened. While the College’s Marketing department, originally known as the Office of Information Services, was responsible for many of the nearly twenty separate publications thus far identified, others were the products of specific departments, programs, or campuses. Some – like the Nathan H. Wilson Center’s 1996 Applause, which produced only a single issue – burned out quickly. Others, like Dr. Ezekiel Bryant’s North Campus President’s Newsletter, lasted decades. A few, like Marketing’s Information Services Newsletter, received occasional face-lifts, changing names over the years from its original ISN monikor to FJC Newsletter in 1977 to FJC Scape in 1980.
Due to the vagaries of some publications naming conventions, errors in volume/issue numbers, and the incompleteness of the Archive’s holdings, it can be difficult to accurately trace and reflect the publication history of FSCJ’s many, many newsletters. We have done our best here to reflect continuity of a publication where possible, choosing to group the various versions of one publication together so long as the volume/issue numbers remain sequential or the creator remains consistent. Publications which were completely rebranded under new names and with new numbering are listed separately. Despite their occasionally confusing lineage, FSCJ’s many newsletters are an excellent source of information on the people, services, and events of which the College was most proud.
This collection represents as many of the various FSCJ newsletters as we have currently been able to identify. If you have information regarding publications not listed here, or of existing copies of issues not represented, please contact Jennifer Grey at jennifer.grey@fscj.edu.
