In October of 2020, FSCJ presented William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. Staged in the 1940s, the comedy centers on two romantic pairings that emerge when a group of soldiers arrive in the town of Messina. The younger couple, Claudio and Hero, fall in love at first site, while the elder, Beatrice and Benedick, bicker bitterly. Thanks to a trick played by their friends, Beatrice and Benedick soon begin to see each other quite differently, and work together to clear Hero’s name when a villainous accusation threatens to derail her marriage to Claudio. The performance includes several musical numbers and period-appropriate songs, including a duet by Beatrice and Benedick of Duke Ellington’s “I Got it Bad (& That Ain’t Good).”
This show ran in the parking lot of FSCJ’s Wilson Center for the Arts October 24-25, 2020. It was originally scheduled to debut in March 2020, but was delayed due to the outbreak of COVID 19. The actors appear masked in this performance in adherence with COVID safety protocols. The video opens with a brief montage reflecting the unusual outdoor venue.
A recording of this performance is available in Canvas Commons for viewing by FSCJ faculty and staff. For instructions on how to access archival video in Canvas, please see our FAQ.
