In April of 2014, FSCJ DramaWorks presented Room Service by John Murray and Allen Boretz. Originally written in 1937, this zany farce engendered a successful Broadway run, a Marx Brothers’ movie, and a Frank Sinatra musical. The play tells the story of penniless theater producer Gordon Miller, his theatre sidekicks, and their antics to hold onto their hotel rooms and rehearsal space by sidestepping the hotel management and their creditors in preparation for opening night of what they believe to be the next Broadway hit, the answer to all their problems. Arising during a time when its Depression-era audience needed and appreciate a way to escape the hard knocks of life, its portrayal of the “dodges and makeshifts” of show business is done through physical humor and screwball comedy.
This show ran at FSCJ's Wilson Center for the Arts April 10-13, 2014.
