In July 2007, FSCJ’s South Campus Wilson Center for the Arts in conjunction with FSCJ’s Artist Series hosted its second annual high school summer musical theatre experience featuring Once Upon a Mattress, a musical comedy with music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer, and book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller, and Marshall Barer. In a kingdom long ago and far away, an unhappy curse has left King Sextimus unable to speak. During his silence his terror-of-a-wife, Queen Aggravain has taken over control of the kingdom, even attempting to keep her son Prince Dauntless single by decreeing that only the princess that can pass the queen’s test may marry him. With all marriages in the kingdom banned until after Dauntless weds, a pair of desperate-to-wed nobles come up with a plan and a princess: Winnifred the Woebegone.
This show ran at FSCJ's Wilson Center for the Arts July 26-29, 2007.
